STEPHANIE GILMORE: "SOY COMPETITIVA Y ME GUSTA CORRER FRENTE A PERSONAS"
Hoy, La australiana Stephanie Gilmore de 24 años, no solo es la embajadora de la marca Quiksilver en el mundo, sino es la mejor tablista entre las mejores.
Stephanie hizo un alto en su vida diaria y concedió una entrevista para Olasperu.com, donde nos contó sobre sus inicios, momentos en el tour mundial, sobre lo que la música representa en su vida, entre otros.

Silvana: Hola Stephanie, primero felicitarte por obtener tu quinto título como campeona mundial de tabla. ¿Cómo te sientes ante éste logro?
Stephanie: Me siento muy bien, gracias!
Silvana: La gente en Sudamérica quisiera saber un poco más de ti. ¿Cómo y dónde empezaste a correr olas?
Stephanie: Yo empecé a correr tabla a los 10 años con mis hermanas y mi papá quién es actualmente un gran tablista.

Silvana: ¿Cuándo irrumpiste en la escena internacional del surfing femenino? ¿A qué edad?
Stephanie: Creo que fue cuando gané el evento 'Roxy Pro Gold Coast' en el 2005, cuando participé como 'wildcard', recuerdo que ese fue mi gran momento, ¡tenía 17 años y estaba en shock!
Silvana: ¡Hay alguna ola que consideres desafiante y que aún no hayas corrido?
Stephanie: Hay cientos de olas temerarias que estoy lista para correr pero no estoy segura de poder correrlas todas, al menos lo intentaré.

Silvana: ¿Cómo te preparas para una competencia?
Stephanie: La verdad es que soy bastante relajada hasta el momento en que me doy cuenta de lo que sucede a mi alrededor y allá voy para divertirme un poco. Es un gran trabajo (risas).
Silvana: ¿Cuáles han sido tus mejores y tus peores momentos corriendo en el tour mundial?
Stephanie: Mi mejor momento fue cuando tuvimos un evento en Honolua Bay el mismo día que se llevaba a cabo el evento Eddie Aikau y así las olas estuvieron tan buenas como el evento y las tuvimos para nosotras. Los peores momentos son cuando pierdes en series importantes, así que trato de evitar perder (risas).

Silvana: ¿Qué te motiva el surfear y ganar?
Stephanie: Yo soy competitiva. Me gusta correr frente a personas, es un sentimiento raro el tener a las personas en la playa alentándote.
Silvana: Vemos cada año jóvenes y nuevos talentos. ¿Crees que será cada vez más difícil el poder ganar títulos mundiales en el futuro?
Stephanie: Por supuesto. Cada año es más y más difícil ganar, por eso es que la victoria es más dulce cuando una gana.
Silvana: ¿Cómo ves a la siguiente generación de chicas surfers en el tour mundial?
Stephanie: Creo que irán más lejos con el avance y la innovación en las maniobras, pero será la que combine el 'power' y las maniobras radicales la que gane.

Silvana: Hablando un poco más sobre el tour, ¿habrá alguna ola para ti, que no la estén considerando como una fecha dentro del tour mundial?
Stephanie: Hay varias pero esperemos que en un futuro cercano veamos a las chicas compitiendo el Lower Trestles, en alguna rompiente en el Pacífico y retornando a Honolua en Hawaii.

Silvana: Te he visto en algunos videos tocando muy bien la guitarra. Cuéntanos un poco sobre la pasión que tienes por la música.
Stephanie: Adoro la música. Logra que el mundo gire. Me encanta tocar la guitarra y hacer música con diferentes instrumentos. No podría vivir sin ella, recientemente he estado gastando mucho dinero en guitarras clásicas (risas).
Silvana: ¿Quién es tu principal auspiciador y cómo te sientes pasando tiempo con las chicas de tu equipo? Stephanie: Soy la embajadora de Quiksilver, trabajo muy de cerca con las chicas de Quiksilver para crear proyectos interesantes y productos que honren la marca y mostrar el increíble estilo de vida que llevo, viajando y surfeando alrededor del mundo.

Silvana: ¿En cuántas películas has participado?
Stephanie: No muchas, habrán más en un futuro cercano, ¡así que prepárense!.
Silvana: Para terminar, ¿Cuándo regresarás al Perú?
Stephanie: Extraño los eventos que se realizan en Perú, especialmente en el norte, pero espero poder ir como 'free surfer' y correr unas olas. ¡Todo a su tiempo!

Silvana: Hello Stephanie, congratulations on reaching your fifth world surfing title. How does it feel?
Stephanie: Feels great! Thank you.

Silvana: People in South America would like to know more about you. How and where did you get into surfing?
Stephanie: I started around the age of 10 with my sisters and my father who is still a great surfer today.
Silvana: How and when did you break into the International surfing scene? How old were you when that happened?
Stephanie: I think when I won the Roxy Pro Gold Coast event in 2005 as a wildcard, that was my big break. I was 17 and so stoked!

Silvana: Is there a challenging wave that you haven't surf yet?
Stephanie: There are hundreds of challenging waves that I am yet to surf, not sure If ill get to surf them all but I'll try.
Silvana: What do you do to get ready for a competition?
Stephanie: I'm pretty relaxed, but i just wake up the body and be aware of my surroundings, then I go out there and have some fun. It's a great job, haha

Silvana: What have been your top and low moments so far in a tour?
Stephanie: My top moment would be when we had an event at Honolua Bay the same day as the Eddie event was on, so yeah the waves were as good as waves get and we had it to ourselves! Losing in important heats are pretty low moments so we try to avoid that, haha.
Silvana: What motivates you to surf and to win?
Stephanie: I'm competitive, but I love to perform in front of people. It's a rad feeling to have people cheering on the beach.
Silvana: We see newer and younger talents every year... do you think it will get significantly harder to win world titles in the future?
Stephanie: Of course it will. Every year is harder and harder to win and thats why victory tastes sweeter every time.

Silvana: How do you see the next generation of surfers on tour?
Stephanie: Im sure they will be far more advanced with the innovative and tricky stuff but it will be who can mix the power and tricks together that will win.
Silvana: Talking a little more about the tour, is there a wave in the world for you that is missing from the world tour?
Stephanie: There are many, hopefully in the near future we see the women at Lower Trestles, in the Pacific at a reef break somewhere, and back in Hawaii at Honolua.
Silvana: I've seen you in some videos playing the guitar really well... tell us about your passion for music.
Stephanie: I love music!! It makes the world go around. I enjoy playing the guitar and messing around with different instruments, I couldn't live without it. I've recently been spending too much money on vintage guitars, haha.

Silvana: Who is your main sponsor and how do you feel spending time with the people of your team?
Stephanie: I am a Quiksilver ambassador and I work closely with the Quiksilver Womens brand to create some cool projects and products that honor the brand and the amazing lifestyle that I live, traveling and surfing around the world.
Silvana: How many movies have you been involved in?
Stephanie: Not many, There will be more in the near future, so be ready!

Silvana: Finally, when are you going to come back to Peru?
Stephanie: I miss having our event there, especially up north, but I guess ill just have to come free surf and hang out soon. When the time is right!
